With developing technology and changing times everything has evolved and so has data storage. From the bulky harddrives to portable drives the storage capacity has increased in converse proportions to the size of storage drive.

Now it is possible to store ample files and data in a very small storage drive. However, as the capacity of storage has virtually increased so has the amount of data generated. With files created and information gathered every moment the requirements of data storage has gone up substantially.

Many businesses can afford to purchase more storage equipments and house them as need arises. But for many small and medium sized enterprises it is not often feasible to procure storage equipments at will and need cheaper alternatives. For those who need affordable storage options Cloud storage is a viable alternative.

If the data you generate is in huge quantity then it may not be feasible to store it on local infrastructure as you may run out of space soon and you may need additional devices to store the data. And with that you would also need space for placing the devices which may not be possible after certain extent. The more physical storage you have the higher your expenses will be.

On the contrary if you choose Cloud Storage then you do not need any space as the data is stored by the Cloud Service Providers. Although storing data on cloud is also going to cost you but the cost will be very less compared to traditional storage and also you need not worry about the space and associated costs.

Another issue with on premise storage is that when you have multiple servers running you would also need to appoint an administrator for looking after the maintenance and ensuring that there is proper access given to the employees for getting the desired data they need. And you would also be responsible for ensuring regular backups of the data to prevent issues in case the servers go down.

Usually businesses prefer keeping data storage on premise for keeping control with them. This allows them to implement security measures they wish to have. However, Cloud storage can be as secure as on premise storage or even better for that matter. Cloud service provider use high security measures with firewalls and data encryption methods to prevent any loss.
